Field Training Program
The Snyder Police Department Field Training Program is an approach to the field training of Police Officers based on a system of formal, standardized and structured teaching and evaluation. The demands placed on Police Officers in today's society require them to gain a vast amount of knowledge to field situations. The learning process which is based on what candidates learn at the academy continues with practical field experience. Snyder Officers who successfully complete our FTO program can be proud of the training they received making them confident and efficient.
Newly hired Snyder Officers can expect to complete 12 to 14 weeks of field training. After successful completion of the Field Training Program, the officer is assigned to a quarterly rotating patrol shift and reports to the shift Sergeant. Visit the Department Sections page to learn more about our specialized units and opportunities to promote.
Recruit Assessment & Sponsorship Program
The Snyder Police Department has began testing a program that allows citizens who are not certified peace officers, and who are unable to attend an academy on their own, to apply for a sponsored academy attendance. Applications for this program are only accepted once a year (Usually beginning in December). Recruits who are selected for this valued opportunity, attend the Police Academy during the following Summer and participate in our Field Training Program following graduation. Recruits are hired as City of Snyder employees, and are compensated during the academy. Tuition, Housing, Books, and Uniforms are provided or paid for by the department. There must be an Advertised open application period for interested persons to apply for this program. For more information contact any of our recruiters.
