New firefighters have a one year probationary period to complete the
minimal training and achieve introductory certification, during which time they are actively involved in firefighting. After the minimal requirements are met, members may progress to higher certifications at their own pace.
Area fire schools are offered from time to time, interactive on-line training is available in some content areas, and there are annual week long schools, such as the
Texas A & M fire training that some members attend.
The department has several certified fire training instructors, and volunteers participate in the
State Firemen's and Fire Marshal's Association certification program.
The department has a rescue training facility, and a fire suppression training field for practical application training and hands-on training.
