The Snyder Volunteer Fire Department is a non-profit corporation, organized under the oversight of the Snyder City council. The department works in conjunction with the City of Snyder municipal fire department, to form one department for fire suppression activities in Snyder and Scurry County.
The department is composed of elected officers, to include President, V-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Also elected are a team of fire Chaplains who serve in various capacities to victims of fires and accidents.
Elections are held annually at the first business meeting in November, and personnel serve one year terms. The Department has occasional fund raisers for special events including the annual Muscular Dystrophy "Fill the Boot" campaign.
Firefighting equipment, protective clothing, radio pager and necessary associated items are furnished by the City of Snyder.
The department has an
Auxiliary support group of spouses of firefighters and other volunteers who assist with rehabilitation efforts at large scale events by providing refreshments and drinks. Persons desiring to serve the community through the fire department but not willing to fight fires should consider the
Auxiliary.
The
City Fire Chief is the Chief of the Snyder Volunteer Fire Department also.
